A powerfully evocative single malt from the Isle of Skye, Talisker 30 (2012) carries the distillery's 'Made By the Sea' signature in a refined, elegant expression. Appearance is full gold; the nose opens with vanilla and gentle oak, a grapey red-wine note and faint coastal smoke. On the palate it is lively yet mature—initial sweetness gives way to rich spice and Talisker's characteristic peppery heat, balanced by a subtle saline bitterness and underlying woody smokiness. Adding a few drops of water softens the edges and brings a spicy maritime lift. Maturation in oak has built complexity and a warming, gently drying finish that lingers with a pleasing maritime aftertaste. Producer & winemaking notes: Talisker, the oldest distillery on the Isle of Skye (est. 1830), distils in traditional copper pot stills and ages spirit in oak casks for decades to develop layered spice, smoke and coastal minerality. Closure is a T-top cork; the bottled ABV of 49.6% keeps the flavours concentrated and expressive. Serve neat or with a little water in a tulip glass, allow ~15 minutes to open up before revisiting the glass.
