Description
A beautiful effort from Monbousquet, this 2005 comes across to me as one of their strongest efforts, with notes of toasty oak, black cherry and blackcurrant fruit as well as some licorice, incense and flowers. Full-bodied and opulent, this is an amazing wine from a terroir on the so-called “wrong side” of St.-Emilion. Drink it over the next 15 or more years. It is an amazing performance. RP94, WS91

The 2005 Chateau Monbousquet, a grand expression from Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, is a wine that captivates with its modern style and complex profile. With an average vine age of 38 years, this wine exudes a lusty and plush character, featuring notes of coffee, licorice, and jammy fruits. The opulent and very ripe palate is a testament to the diverse terroirs of its 32-hectare vineyard, boasting sandy and gravel soils with ironpan sublayers. Aged 18-24 months in new oak barrels, this unfiltered wine promises a luxurious experience with a lingering bittersweet chocolate finish. Perfect for those who appreciate a forward and richly styled St. Emilion.
